THE SON OF GOD IS A PRIEST

(Revelation 1:6, 1Peter 2:9)

For us to understand our ministry as priests, we must look at some examples in the old covenant.

Priests in the old covenant had to be called by God for that service; no one could minister in this way unless they were called.

Priests did the following:

i) They fully gave themselves to God and his ministry. They were closer to God than any one who was not called.
ii) The stood as mediators between God and people.
iii) They had the responsibility of teaching and passing on Gods commands to other people
iv) They had power to pronounce blessings on people’s lives in Gods name; this means they had power to bless.
v) The Holy Spirit was on top of the priests, kings and prophets only, not inside them.
vi) Priests had a high priest who was Aaron.

We as the priests of the New Testament, our ministry is in two parts. The first part is that of all Sons of God, because every Son is a priest.

i) As priests, we are fully committed to God and his service. We were brought near to God by the blood of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:13).
ii) We stand in the gap between God and people in interceding for those who are not saved and we also bring them to God by preaching the gospel to them.
iii) We have the power to pronounce blessings in the name of Jesus Christ because the Holy Spirit now lives inside of every Son of God, and he performs what we speak. (1Corinthians 3:16, 6:19)
iv) The Holy Spirit lives inside every one of us as Sons of God. He is not just on top of us, but he is in us (1Corinthians 6:19).
v) We have a high priest who is Jesus Christ, He is our eternal High priest (Hebrew 7:23-28)

The second part of our priestly ministry is that of Christians who are called and anointed for the five fold ministry, which are; Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and teachers. These are the people whom God has called and anointed to teach believers and to help them grow them in their sonship and faith life (Ephesians 4:11-16). To some, God gives the vision and the revelation of his plan, and then he brings kings to support this vision with their gifts and monies. Priests and kings of the New Testament work in that manner. Some have both the callings of King and Priest.
